Jamaica Inn Uses Social Media to Launch New Website

Recognized as Jamaica’s leading hotel, Jamaica Inn is launching its new website using a unique two-pronged social media promotion.

Themed “Wish You Were Here” the promotion asks travelers to Tweet, pin, post or share a photo from the Jamaica Inn website through their respective social media channels for a chance to win one of two stays at the hotel. Resort credits and logo merchandise are also being offered as prizes for people entering the contest.

“The contest was created to bring awareness to the new look and feel of Jamaica Inn’s website,” said General Manager Mary Phillips. “We wanted to create something aesthetically welcoming for our guests, and also a site that would make booking a dream vacation easier.”

Jamaica Inn is a picturesque luxury property located on its own private cove with a champagne sand beach that stretches for nearly a quarter of a mile. The hotel’s new website designed by MP&A Digital & Advertising showcases the property using the photography of David Massey.

“Beyond having a search engine optimized site we wanted to create a unique visual experience so each page pops making web visitors wish they were there.” said web designer Harshad Methrath. “So we created a site where every page is its own photo gallery that visitors can view however they like, including a dramatic full screen option.

With the new website’s emphasis on Jamaica Inn’s photography and the increasing emphasis search engines like Google are placing on content sharing in their ranking algorithm, the idea to launch the site with a social media photo sharing promotion was a natural.

People can enter the contest by sharing one of the site’s photos with their social network using Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Pinterest, blog or any other service they prefer. The contest ends November 16, 2012 with the lucky winners announced shortly thereafter.

In addition to the consumer contest, a completely separate promotion has been designed to create awareness among travel agents. A public relations program targeted to both consumers and travel agents is also being used to support the launch.
